Resources for Current Volunteers

Joanne Conroy with a D-H volunteer
Dr. Joanne Conroy congratulates a volunteer.

Thank you for your gift of time and compassion for our patients, staff, and community. We appreciate all you do. Below are reminders and key information to help you in your volunteer service.

Record your service hours

Reporting your hours helps us assess the impact of our volunteer programs and recognize the contribution of all our volunteers. Thank you for taking the time to record your hours.

  • Sign in to Volgistics to record your volunteer service hours or to schedule a volunteer shift. If you serve in more than one volunteer role, please report your hours for each role separately.

If you have any questions or need assistance in reporting your hours, please contact Volunteer and Guest Services for the location where you volunteer:

If you are a volunteer at DHMC, you may park in the parking garage, the Main Entrance lot, or any employee lot. Your car must be registered with DHMC Security. View the DHMC patient and visitor parking map.

For all other locations, please park in areas marked for employee parking.

Reporting an absence

If you are scheduled to volunteer and have to cancel your shift at short notice, please contact your volunteer supervisor or your local Volunteer and Guest Services office.

Volunteer Protection Act

In June 1997, Congress passed the Volunteer Protection Act of 1997. The law ensures that people who volunteer their services can do so without worrying that their offer of free services ends up costing them legal fees. The law also provides that volunteers for non-profit organizations or governmental entities cannot be sued for actions taken during their work for the organization or entity if:

  • The volunteer was acting within the scope of his or her responsibility
  • The volunteer did not engage in willful or criminal misconduct, gross negligence, reckless misconduct, or conscious, flagrant indifference to the rights of an individual harmed by the volunteer
